Welcome to The Debates Hub: HiDC's central platform for competition, community, and excellence in public speaking.
High Schools Debate Challenge (HiDC) is an organisation established in March 2023. It runs debate and public speaking competitions for primary and high schools at provincial, national, regional, and international levels. Besides debates, we organize quiz, spelling bee, and poetry competitions, alongside educational exchange programs in Zimbabwe and abroad.
Observing that most child rights organizations use lecture methods, we realized the need to involve children in discussing issues that affect them. Guided by our motto, "Let's hear from the children themselves," HiDC gives children a platform to express opinions on topical issues and formulate solutions.
We aim to educate youth on child abuse and child rights through awareness campaigns, workshops, and debate tournaments. Topics focus on child rights, early marriages, drug abuse, and Catholic ethos (guided by the Zimbabwe Catholic Bishops Child Protection Policy).
Winners of our national tournaments represent their schools in the SADC competitions in August and Pan African Debate Championships in December. We use the World Schools Debate style for primary schools and British Parliamentary style for high schools. Top performers also showcase their talents on 3KTV and NRTV weekly.
